We’re shining the spotlight on the ladies at Closet London and their outfits to celebrate International Women’s Day, a global celebration of women and our achievements and promoting equality across the world. The theme for 2019 is #BalanceforBetter, looking at building a more gender-balanced world, motivating each other and work to a brighter future.

What does being a woman mean to you? This was the first question we discussed, unanimously Brianna, Lucy and Simi agree that being a woman means being independent, strong but most of all empowered.

We asked the team here to choose their favourite pieces in our latest collection, ‘Carousel’ which makes them feel fantastic!

For a elegant and flirty look, Brianna chose the Closet GOLD Black Satin Handkerchief Hem Dress and styled it with embellished statement heels and red lipstick to add a pop of colour to her black tie outfit.

Q1. Who’s your female role model?

Emma Watson has always been my role model since I was a little girl and saw her in the Harry Potter films. She motivates me as a leading female character who didn’t need any help and continues to inspire me as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. She works to empower women and advocates greater gender equality. I’m also inspired by my granny, she fearlessly leads my family with authority and grace. She is always proud of me and encourages me to push forward and achieve amazing things.

Q2. Your favourite quote?

“You can waste your life drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them.” - Shonda Rhimes

Q3. How do you stay motivated daily? Could be fashion or general life.

I stay motivated by always looking forward. Whether or not I am having a great day, I know that there are amazing things to come. It could be a major life moment, or a small thing such as having some chocolate at the end of the day. An upbeat song helps me to feel great again!

Q4. What female music artist are you loving now and why?

Right now, I’m loving Jess Glynne. Her lyrics are absolutely amazing and I can’t help smiling and dancing when I listen to her.

Simi teamed the Green Pleated Sleeve Detail Blouse and Black Wide Leg Belted Trousers with co-ordinating green heels and vintage jewellery to express her personal retro style. She enjoys switching up her look by swapping her glasses for contacts, making her feel more confident as it shows off her brown eyes and warm toned eyeshadow.

Q1. How else would you style this outfit?

I would wear the trousers for a street-style edge with a graphic t-shirt and swap the heels for trainers to make it more comfortable. I think dressing the trousers up or down would be fun and interesting, I like how they are quite versatile. The top would look cool tucked in a cute skirt, with tights and boots.

Q2. Your favourite quote?

“Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.” - Rumi

Q3. Your proudest achievement?

2018 was the best year of my life. I was able to develop my career path, to become and feel truly independent. Last summer, I went on my first solo trip and it encouraged me to experience new things without guidance. This was a huge stepping stone for me, I now feel empowered to take on unfamiliar things that might come my way.

Q4. What’s your thoughts on the Carousel collection?

I don’t wear bright colours often, but I really enjoyed this collection as it has encouraged me to wear more colour. I love the red leopard print skirt as it’s unique and could be worn easily with a t-shirt and trainers. Also, the red geometric print dress reminds me of the 70’s, going back to my love for vintage and old-school styles.

Staying fashion forward and injecting her personal flare into her outfit, Lucy takes on the utility trend with our Pink Wide Leg Front Zip Shirt Jumpsuit for a fun and vibrant look which is perfect for any occasion where you want to stand out.

Q1. Why is this your favourite piece from the Carousel collection?

I love that this is a feminine take on a utility style.  It’s very on-trend at the moment but in this bright pink luxe fabric it’s totally unique to what other retailers are offering.  I’ve worn it with classic flat black shoes with my Taurus stud earrings and silver rings.

Q2. Your proudest achievement?

I recently made the Allstars team for my roller derby team, London Rockin’ Rollers! I’m not sure how long I’ll stay there for but I’m really enjoying the challenge so far.

Q3. What words would you use to describe your personal style?

Smart but comfortable, you’ll rarely find me in a pair of heels, so I love to dress down fancy pieces.

Q4. Who’s your female inspiration?

My sister – she’s always been gifted with determination to work so hard to achieve her dreams, she was a great person to look up to as I was growing up.
